In March of 2010, we had an addition to our family, a grandson.
That changed everything for us around here.
It became a natural thing, since we have an alpaca breeding farm,
to put these pieces together! We began to look at the ways that the
alpaca could fit into the life of this little one.
So what I did was to search for knitters, weavers and those who
crochet to make a layette for his christening. I found the weaver
for the blanket, and the matinée sweater had already been found
from a friend in NC.
We added the booties and hat to the outfit and his keepsakes are now heirlooms for the time when he has a
family. It was a tremendous feeling to be able to set aside a piece of today for his tomorrow. I looked for
unique kinds of packaging.
This road has been really neat in that we found antique cigar boxes and refurbished them. Painted some of
them gold, and added ribbons, hang-tags and fabric care cards that coordinated together. Then we devised a
certificate of authenticity. We could verify where the yarn originated, with the alpaca's name and the quality of
the yarn. We are hoping to have the privilege of following our clients, the baby, sending a card on the
birthday each year and keeping up with them as they grow older.
We feel very strongly about supporting children with positive thoughts and prayers. Little people have
choices that are made for them and the ones they will make for themselves, will shape the type of person they
will become. Children that have people who care for them are so much better and ready to serve when they
arrive to adulthood.
Also, this is the place where we will do artisan interviews. If you will look at the photo to the right, that is
Kathy Gholston. She and her family raise the suri alpaca. She does unbelievable designs on her loom. We
commissioned her to do William's blanket and it is a work of art. We welcome her to our fold. If you want a
receiving blanket for your little one, let us know and we can make it happen. The layette is perfect with hat,
booties, matinée sweater and the blanket. Perfect gift and heirloom.
